Services for Gary David Neill
Gary David Neill, 70 of Bagley, MN died on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN with the Reverend Randy McGuire officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Bagley, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Gary was born November 4, 1946 at Walla Walla, Washington the son of Maurice and Millie (Halvorson) Neill. Gary was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and attended school in Bagley. Gary entered the United States Army on December 7, 1967 and honorably served our country during the Vietnam War. While in the Army, Gary earned the National Defense Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam service medal and earned the rank of Private First Class. He was honorably discharged on July 11, 1969. Gary married Delaine Haugen in December of 1971 and they had two children, Ryan and Nichole. They lived in Minneapolis and New Mexico where he worked for a roofing company and was a Back Hoe Operator. They moved back to Minnesota where he worked for his brother Paul, at Neill’s Plumbing. He was always loved and was his happiest while spending time at the family farm in Popple Township. Gary enjoyed watching old western movies, listening to country music and loved all of his pets. He was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 of Bagley, the Disabled American Veterans and many other Veteran connected charities. Gary was a gruff and tender hearted man. He never had much, but he would give the shirt off his back to anyone and always was rooting for the underdog. Gary was extremely proud of his country and the fact that he served in Vietnam. Despite the hard and difficult times, he would be honored to serve this country again.
He is survived by his Son – Ryan (Cecila) Neill of Savage, Minnesota
Daughter – Nichole Neill of Savage, Minnesota
Brother – Paul (Jan) Neill of Bagley, Minnesota
Sister – Sharon (Denny) Trandem of Bagley, Minnesota
Sister – Carol Hromidko of Bagley, Minnesota
2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter
Numerous nieces and nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter – Darci and Son – Shannon; special grandmother – Clara Halvorson; 2 brothers – Kenneth and Robert and 2 sisters – Dawna and Dorla.
