Doris Olson, age 93, formerly of Winger, MN, died Friday, October 15, 2021, at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, MN.

Doris Maxine Versdahl, the only daughter of Albert and Ida (Sletmoen) Versdahl, was born April 6, 1928, on a farm, south of Leonard, ND, in Helendale Township, Richland County.  She was baptized at Helendale Lutheran Church, rural Leonard.  As a young toddler, her family moved to the Winger area.  Doris attended Wooded Park School, rural Winger, and was confirmed at Dovre Free Lutheran Church.  She met Morris Clayton Olson and the two were united in marriage on May 30, 1947, at Dovre Free Lutheran Church parsonage.  They were blessed with one daughter and three sons.  Doris moved several times during the first years of their marriage while Morris served in the US Army.  She returned to Winger to raise their family when he was called overseas.  When the children were school age, Doris worked at the Gorilla Café and Bursheim’s Meat Market in Winger.  She then became employed at Hartz Grocery in Winger, where she worked in the meat department for many years until her retirement.  Morris passed away in 1990 and Doris remained in her Winger home until 2017, when she moved to Poplar Meadows Assisted Living in McIntosh and later to McIntosh Senior Living.

Doris had many wonderful qualities.  She was kind, caring, quick-witted, and an extremely hard worker.  She was a wonderful baker, making the best homemade bread and lefse around.  Doris enjoyed having company over for a visit and was always the coffee corner for her brothers to stop in each morning.  Doris was also a long-time member of Dovre Free Lutheran Church, where she actively participated over the years.

Doris is survived by her four children: sons Terry (Jean) Olson of Grafton, ND; Wayne (Sue) Olson of Barstow, CA; daughter, Linda (Courtland) Smith of Richland, WA; and son Mike Olson of McIntosh; 11 grandchildren: Matthew, Nathaniel, David, and Sarah; Shayne, Stefanie, Tim, and Katie; Shad, Shawna, and Lisa; 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Norman Versdahl and Manley Versdahl both of Winger.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ida; husband, Morris; three brothers: Roger, Arnold, and Allen; and sister-in-law, June Versdahl.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021, at Dovre Free Lutheran Church, Winger.  Visitation was held one-hour prior at the church.  Burial took place in Dovre Cemetery, rural Winger.
