Services for Forrest Mostrom

Forrest Mostrom, 79, lost his battle with cancer on the evening of Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at his home in rural Gonvick, MN surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Trail, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Cease Family Funeral Home. Interment will be held at the Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Forrest Richard born on April 5, 1942 to William and Ella Mostrom in Thief River Falls, MN. Forrest was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church, in rural Trail, MN. He remained a member of Nazareth for his life. Forrest attended school at Hickory County School. Forrest completed the 8th grade at Hickory School. Afterwards, Forrest worked at home milking cows and doing farm work. In 1959, Forrest left home and went to work in Minneapolis, MN. He worked on a road construction crew. In 1960, Forrest met Betty Lou Benson in Hopkins, MN. They were married on April 13, 1963 at Nazareth Church with a reception and dance at the Gully Hall.
Forrest and Betty’s only child, Julie Ann, was born and passed away on May 4, 1969. During their life together they lived in Gonvick, MN until 1978. They moved north of Gonvick to a small hobby farm. They had small animals and a large garden. They both loved dogs and always had their dogs with them. Forrest worked for many different road construction and pipeline crews including Woodridge and Lakehead. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the 49ers. Forrest worked in many different states. Forrest retired in 2002 due to health issues. Betty passed away in February 13, 2009. Forrest will be remembered for his storytelling. He always had at least three good stories to tell. Forrest remained busy driving his Amish friends to work and shop. He enjoyed going to sales, listening to music, and going to the local casinos.
Most of all, Forrest loved being with family and friends. Christmas was a special time for Forrest to spend with family and friends. Forrest spent his last two months under the care of Clearwater County Hospice.
He was preceded in death by: wife - Betty; daughter - Julie; Parents - William and Ella Mostrom; Parents-In-Law - William and Florence Benson; Sisters - Doris Bjerklie Danielson and Shirley Johnsrud; Brother - Robert Mostrom; Brothers-In-Law - Jergen Bjerklie, Stanley Danielson, Gilmer Oftelie, Clifford Johnsrud; Sisters-In-Law - Joyce Mostrom; Nephew-In-Law - Kenneth Nybo; Great Nephew - Kevin Nybo (Godson); many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Forrest is survived by: Brothers - Leroy Mostrom of Gonvick, MN, Lyle Mostrom, Van Wert of IA; Sister - Bernice Oflelie of Gully, MN; Sister-In-Law - Donna Benson of Minneapolis, MN; Nephew - Gary (Karen) Oflelie of Bemidji, MN; Nieces - Cheryl Nybo of Gully, MN, Candyce (Timothy) Lundeen and Kristi Johnsrud of Goodridge, MN, Theresa Benson (God Daughter) of Gully, MN, Brenda (Chuck) Born of Minneapolis, MN; Uncle - Elmer Rustan of Oklee, MN; Aunt - Sammie Mostrom of Oklee, MN; God Son - Shannon (Angela) Lundeen of Oklee, MN; many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
