Doug was born on May 14, 1942 in Bagley, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Lillian (Hopke) Halvorson.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Bagley.  He attended Bagley Public Schools graduating with the class of 1960.  Doug married his hometown sweetheart, Sharon Marie Vorderbruggen on November 28, 1964 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN.  In 1965, they welcomed their first son, Paul Douglas, to the family, and in 1969 a second son Darin Lee, made their family complete.  In 1969, with two active boys, Doug and Sharon moved to their home just south of Bagley, where there was plenty of room for family adventures and fun.  Doug was a devoted family man.  He was a dedicated husband to his wife Sharon, a loving father to his sons, and an amazing Grandpa and Great Grandfather.  His brothers David, Dale, Donnie and their families were very special to him, and he always looked forward to seeing them.  He was always ready for a goodtime.  He loved camping at Cass Lake with family and friends.  He enjoyed a lively game of Rummy or Yahtzee. He enjoyed trips to the casino and a cool libation with family and friends.  He appreciated good “old time” music, Western movies, and Louis L’Amour books. Doug worked in Montana and South Dakota building elevators, until he began working for Clearwater Polk Electric in December of 1967.  He faithfully held this job for 36 years, retiring in July of 2004.  He was a member of the Itasca Rod & Gun Club, serving as Treasurer for many years.  He was also a member of the Ducks Unlimited and Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.  Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, feeding deer, birds, and keeping his yard “perfectly manicured”.
