Dorothy Elaine (Bjelland) Lee, 86, of Oklee, MN passed away on Sunday, June 04, 2017 at her home in Oklee surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN with Reverend Margaret Jacobus Officiating. Burial will be held at Saron Lutheran Cemetery Erskine, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Dorothy Elaine Bjelland was born February 28, 1931, rural Winger, MN to Carl John and Trine Helena (Lyngaas) Bjelland. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Winger MN, April 20, 1931. She was confirmed May 27, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Woodburn, OR. She attended rural school in Badger Township, Erskine, MN and 5 years of high school in Oregon and Washington. She graduated from Erskine High School, 1949. Dorothy married George Herman Lee, October 29, 1949 at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, MN. They made their first home in rural Erskine and in 1956 moved to Oklee, MN. They were married 63 years. George passed away December 28, 2012.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked 10 years at Oklee Elementary School as a teacher’s aide, besides being a homemaker. Dorothy was active in church, Sunday School, and Hospice. She was a Board member for Board of Aging and Mac Manor, Rydell Refuge and PTA.
Dorothy and George spent 12 winters in Arizona. They enjoyed traveling and camping. She loved their cabin on Wolf Lake, Bemidji. Dorothy also enjoyed reading, knitting, making quilts for her grandchildren, bird watching, flowers, gardening, and collecting over 350 Christmas Nativity scenes.
She is survived by her 5 children: Mick (Cheryl) of Bemidji, MN, Gary (Sandra) of Brooks, MN, Kathy (Bruce) Krogstad of Moorhead, MN, Mark (Sue) of Plummer, MN and David; grandchildren: Jeremy (Sarah) Lee, Adam (Sarah) Lee, Gretchen Johnson, Kayse (Zachary) Maass, Jami Nunn, Sheena Lee and Courtney Lee; great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Ethan, and Logan Lee, Caden, Trevor, Jacob, and Teagan Lee, Layne and Carter Johnson, Talon and Thea Nunn, and Jackson Olson; sisters: Adeline (Ted) Butzer of Maryville, WA, Carol Brown of Arkdale, WI, sister-in- laws: Alice Bjelland, Winnie Bjelland, Arlys Lee, Helen Lee and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, Dec. 28, 2012, baby brother, parents, brother, Norman Bjelland, and brother-in-law, Leon Brown.
