Donald Hanson, age 85, of Shoreview, MN, and Winger, MN, died on Sunday, March 10, 2024, in Casa Grande, AZ. Don was a St. Paul, MN, Police Officer, retiring in 1996 after 32 years of service.
Donald Howard was born in Fosston, MN, to Hjalmar and Myrtle (Wold) Hanson on January 5, 1939. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Don attended Gossen Country School through 8th grade and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1956. Don served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, spending 18 months in Germany. After his honorable discharge, Donald was united in marriage to Sarajane Grindeland in 1961.
Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Upper Red Lake, their farm in rural Winger and spending the last 28 winters at their home in Florence, AZ.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Sarajane; his children: Connie Mowry, Steven Hanson and Brian Hanson; two grandchildren, Kevin and Rebecca; two great-grandchildren, Melody and Zoey; a sister, Burnell Hanson; brother, Paul Hanson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald (Valerie) Hanson; mother-in-law, Ann Grindeland; sister-in-law, Irene (Joel) Vesledahl; and niece, Jeanne Vesledahl.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Winger, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Lima Cemetery, rural Winger.
