Services for Darlene Eck
Darlene Eck 84 of Gonvick, MN died on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at The Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, Minnesota with Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Darlene was born September 7, 1933 in Clearbrook, Minnesota the daughter of Adolph and Hulda (Torgerson) Bjerke. She was raised in the Clearbrook area and attended the Beard School. She was baptized and confirmed at Seljord Church in rural Clearbrook. She worked as a nanny and housekeeper for a family in the Crookston area. Darlene also worked in restaurants. Her favorite job was making lefse at Winsor Lefse Factory where she was a baker for 30 plus years. She married Manfred Eck on January 17, 1953 in Bagley, Minnesota. They farmed in Winsor Township for many years. Manfred preceded her in death October 2, 1992.
Darlene was a member of the Samhold Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid She loved to bake and cook; and attend activities that her grandchildren participated in. She shared many fond memories of farming and raising their four daughters. Family was the most important thing to her. She loved to brag about her special grandkids and great grandchildren and tell stories of them. They were the light of her life! She loved to spend every chance she got with them. Darlene loved to cook and bake, especially for her family. She always made sure everyone ate very well. Also, she enjoyed having coffee and goodies when family and friends stopped by. And also enjoyed listening to Sunday morning church services on the radio. We were beyond blessed to have such a remarkable Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. She was the best. She will forever be in our hearts and will be greatly missed. Blessed be her memory.

Five grandchildren- Ryan Bergman, Casey (Courtney) Bergman, Kayla Holzinger,
Scott (Allison Phillips) Stebe, and Cassandra (Nick Spray) Stebe
Two Great Grandchildren- Aurora and Ross
Brother and Sister-in -law- Harlow and Tippy Berg of Gonvick, MN
Sister-in-law- Mavis Eck of Bemidji, MN
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, LaVonne and Monica; one granddaughter, Melissa; two sisters, Alvina and Adeline; brother, Rudy; brothers-in-law, Robert, Everett, Russell, Walter, Roger, Marvin, Melvin Bakke, Eugene Dyrdahl; and sisters-in-law- Adabelle Sather, Wanda Dyrdahl, Clara Eck, Vivian Eck, Shirley Eck, Helen Bakke, Petra Eck, Pearl Eck, Evangeline Eck, and Claire Sather.
