Services for Clinton Balstad

Clinton Balstad, age 82, of Billings, MT, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at his winter home in Mesa, AZ.
Clinton Edward Balstad, the son of Ed and Gertie (Hengel) Balstad, was born July 27, 1936, in Winger, MN.  He was both baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  As a child, Clinton attended country school and Winger Public School and then earned his high school degree from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.  Following high school, Clinton entered the work force and joined the Air National Guard, proudly serving six years.  On December 6, 1969, Clinton was united in marriage to Holly Anderson.  The couple made their home in Winger and Clinton immediately welcomed her two children, Tony and Lori, into his heart and raised them as his own.  Clinton enjoyed growing up in a small town in Northwestern Minnesota, but he always dreamed of living in the mountains.  In 1994, that dream became a reality when the family moved to Billings, MT.  Clinton worked many years as a millwright.  Even though they have spent the past 25 years in Montana, Clinton and Holly remained members of Dovre Lutheran Church.
Clinton was a talented wood worker with an eye for perfection which was evident in all the beautiful furniture pieces he made.  He loved spending time in the great outdoors especially camping and riding his ATV in the mountains.  In his younger years, he enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips as well.  Clinton and Holly made numerous wonderful memories traveling around the United States and looked forward to their winters in Mesa.
Clinton is survived by his wife, Holly of Billings; his daughter, Lori Charlton also of Billings; two brothers, Arnold (Sue) Balstad and Floyd (Gerri) Balstad both of Winger, MN; one sister, Jeannie (Ray) Gullekson of Beltrami, MN; two brothers-in-law, Bill (Sue) Anderson of Billings, MT, and Andy (Bethany) Anderson of Red Wing, MN; two sisters-in-law, Judy (John) Peters of Billings, MT and Diane (Bob) Albers of Fergus Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Gertie, and son, Tony Charlton.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Dovre Lutheran Church in Winger, MN.  Visitation was held at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 pm, on Monday, March 18, 2019.  Visitation was also held one hour before the funeral at the church on Tuesday.
