Services for Carl “Gene” Teigland
Carl “Gene” Teigland, age 81, of rural Oklee, MN died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28th, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 at Oak Park Lutheran Church in rural Oklee, MN with Pastor Jeff Merseth officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park cemetery, Deer Park Township, Pennington County, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN and one hour before the funeral service on Saturday.
Carl “Gene” Teigland was born on September 29th, 1934 to James and Signe Teigland on a farm near Grygla, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Gene farmed and worked in the woods cutting spruce for pulp before entering the army in 1957. He was a mechanic stationed in Germany until 1959. He attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH in 1961 and was a meat cutter and manager for the Red Owl Stores in Minneapolis, MN over 30 years.
On February 23, 1963, Gene married Nancy Stucy of rural Oklee, MN. After briefly living in East Grand Forks, MN, they moved to Minneapolis, MN where they lived for nearly 40 years. To this union were born Daniel Gene and Debra Nell. In 2002, Gene and Nancy moved to the Stucy home farm in rural Oklee and enjoyed raising animals, gardening, playing cards, traveling, attending dances and other music events.
He will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, wisdom and common sense, his generosity with his time and skills, his enthusiasm for socializing with family and friends, his virtuosity as a handyman and his irrepressible love of dancing.
Gene is survived by his dear companion Christine Strande, his children Daniel Teigland of Houston, TX, Debra (Matthew) Haglind of Eagan, MN, and granddaughters Kristen (Brian) Stevens and Kathryn (Robert) Splinter, sisters Marian Ostby, Doris Smeby, Mavis (Robert) Smeby, Gloria (Richard) Ness, Carol (Andy) Wells, brother, Sheldon (Lucy) Teigland and sisters-in-law Donna Teigland, Carole Teigland, Faye (Carl) Johnson and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, parents James and Signe, sister Joyce, brothers Glenn and Wallace, brothers-in-law Clayton Ostby and John Smeby.
