Services for Bjarne Kvasager
Bjarne Kvasager, 88 of Oklee, MN died peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Church rural Oklee, MN with Pastor Christy Klemz officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church.
Bjarne Kvasager was born on June 3, 1929 in Eidsborg, Norway the son of Ole and Kathrine (Mandt) Kvasaker. He was baptized on August 4, 1929 at the Eidsborg Stave Church. The family moved to the United States when Bjarne was a very young child and they changed the family name to Kvasager. They settled on a farm in Equality Township, Red Lake County, MN. Bjarne graduated from Oklee High School with the class of 1947 and then attended trade school.
Bjarne entered into service with the United States Army from 1951-1953 and served in Korea during the Korean War.
Bjarne met his future wife, Viola Klein while she was attending school in Thief River Falls. The couple married on March 24, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. They lived in St. Paul, MN for the first year following their marriage and then purchased the Kvasager farm in Equality Township, Red Lake County, MN from Bjarne’s parents where they continued to reside.
He farmed his entire life, worked as an electrician and also operated heavy equipment. After Bjarne retired, he enjoyed tinkering around the farm, welding, building contraptions and tractor attachments. He enjoyed deer hunting season with his sons & grandsons, loved when new babies came into the family and liked teasing people especially if he got teased back.
Bjarne was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Plummer American Legion Post and the VFW Post in Lengby.
Survivors include children, Steven (Cynthia) Kvasager of Oklee, Julie (Brad) Ydstie of Hillsboro, ND, Jeff (Kerri) Kvasager of Cottage Grove, MN, Rachel Salberg (Randy Whittall) of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Rex Kvasager, Isaac (Danielle) Kvasager, Tera (Christopher) Christian, Brendan (fiancé Chelsie Hoag) Ydstie, Luke, Jack and Toby Kvasager, Oliver Whittall; great-grandsons, Sam and Simon Kvasager; siblings, Goodwin (Lucille) Kvasager, Anne Manthei, Einar (Carol) Kvasager, Gerda (Arlan) Koskela, Helga Nissen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; siblings, Ole Kvasager Jr., Otto and wife Donna (Langved) Kvasager, Arne and an infant Annie; brothers-in-law, Maurice Nissen and Milton Manthei.
