She was born at home in Leonard, Minnesota the daughter of, Carl Oscar Lundmark and Gerda V. (Isackson) Lundmark on April 8, 1922.

Arlene attended grade school in Leonard then graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1940.  She worked for a year in Leonard at her Aunt Ida Holquist’s store.  She graduated from Bemidji State Teacher’s College and began her teaching career in 1943, in Kelliher, MN, where she taught for five years.  In 1948, Arlene moved to Marshall, MN where she taught another five years, and in the fall of 1953 she began teaching 1st grade at the Lincoln School in Nymore.  Arlene retired from teaching in 1979 and moved back to the home place in Leonard to care for her mother.  Being an educator was the passion and joy of Arlene’s life.  She remembered all her students because as she said, “I loved every single one of them!”  Arlene’s retirement was busy and fulfilling.  She traveled widely, took rosemaling classes, quilted, sang in the community choir, and was the organist at Our Saviors Lutheran in Leonard for 30 years.  This church, of which her parents were founding members was central to her life.  We know that when her long life ended at the Cornerstone Assisted Living in Bagley that she is now “safe in the arms of Jesus”.

She is survived by her sister, Ardis Lysaker of Spring Valley, WI; 3 nieces, Barbara (David) Horn of Bemidji, MN, Mary E. Lundmark of Bemidji, MN, and Karin (Jack) Palumbo of Sarona, WI; 1 nephew, Glenn (Marcy) Lysaker of Goodhue, MN and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Edith Rider, Mildred Kenning, and her brother, Roy E. Lundmark and Carl W. (Bill) Lundmark.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leonard, MN.
