Alton Hartlo Walker, 89, of Bagley, MN died Sunday, May 26, 2024 from Acute Myeloid Leukemia surrounded by love ones at the Sanford Hospital in Bagley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN with the Pastor Randy McGuire officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley from 5:00pm – 7:00pm and also one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Zion Cemetery at Bagley, Minnesota. Military Honors will be accorded by the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 of Bagley, Minnesota.
Alton was born on October 17, 1934 in Blue Earth, Minnesota, the son of Lewis and Mae (Rendall) Walker. He attended Bagley Public Schools. Serviced in the Navy during the Korean War from 1954 to 1958 receiving an honorable discharge.
He was married to MaryAnn Ranisate on December 31, 1954 in Bagley, MN. To this union four daughters were born Vicki, Shirley, Julie and Jean. After the death of his wife, he met his life partner of 25 years Adeline Woolliscroft.
While growing up in Bagley he had the opportunity to spend time on his grandparents’ farm where he developed his love of farming. He owned his farm for over 65 years where he lived out his life farming, gardening and raising animals. Alton also worked construction, built campers and was employed at Bagley Truckstop (Mileage) and Bagley Cooperative Oil Association.
In his youth he was an active 4-H member. As an adult, Alton was a leader while his children and grandchildren were in 4-H and receiving the Friend in 4-H award in recognition of service. He had a great love of the county fair working to ensure the continued success as a fair board member. In 2021 he was named Clearwater County Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year.
Other organizations he was involved in are the Farmers Union, Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 and Garden Club.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, served as a Superintendent of the Sunday School and an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Eddy.
Hunting created a lifetime of adventures with years of local hunting and many trips out west to hunt both elk and deer. He enjoyed the great outdoors and developed the love of painting in his later years.
His family fondly thought him as a “social butterfly” because he would talk with anyone and everyone and he especially loved when people stopped by for a cup of coffee, brownie and a quick visit.
Alton is survived by his significant other, Adeline Woolliscroft of Bagley, MN; daughters, Vicki (Jim) Fisher of Lengby, MN, Julie Walker of Aurora, SD and Jean Walker of Richfield, MN; son-in-law, Paul Stinson of Coon Rapids, MN; sister, Delores Saul of Warroad, MN; grandson, Ryan (Carrie) Walker of Bagley, MN; great grandchildren, Chastine Walker, Dalton Walker and Rylan Walker; great-great grandchildren, Sophia Reynolds-Walker, Benjamin Kemelagha-Walker and Beckham Kemelagha-Walker; sisters-in-law Alice Lewis and Linda Ranisate; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn Walker (Ranisate); parents, Lewis and Mae Walker; in-laws, Louis and Elsie Ranisate; daughter, Shirley Walker Stinson; siblings and spouses, Chuck (Jeanette) Walker, Jim (Nevina) Walker, Carmilla (Robert) Keefe, Hazel (Tom) Vipond, O’donna (Herbert) Ziegler, Peggy (Emil) Kampf and Opal (Charles) Boisjolie; brothers-in-law, Gordon Saul, Chester Lewis and Lloyd Ranisate.
