Services for Albert Rasmussen

Albert Lowell Rasmussen, 84, Fertile, Mn, passed away on February 18, 2016, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, Mn.  He was born on May 24, 1931, in McIntosh, Mn, to parents Albert and Ida (Solie) Rasmussen. He graduated from Mac High in 1949, attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Mn, and served in the US Navy in 1952.

On October 1, 1955, Lowell was united in marriage to Marian Buchholz at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, Mn. They settled in Fertile in 1957, where they raised their three sons. He was employed in his father’s farm implement business, at Garden Valley Telephone as the Fertile-area serviceman, and for twenty five years at Stone’s Mobile Radio in Grand Forks, ND. He retired in 1987. Lowell moved to the nursing home in August, 2012.

Lowell’s curiosity and expertise in mechanics, electronics, and inventing hallmarked his entire life, both in vocation and leisure. From his youth spent repairing radios, later working on complex communication systems, and always improving on or inventing unique tools and gadgets, his passion for knowledge, insight, and ideas was unceasing. Self-taught in several advanced disciplines, he excelled at understanding technical details and trouble-shooting problems. Lowell’s home library contained physics and calculus textbooks, books on optics, machining, and hydraulics, and computer programming. He loved cutting firewood, listening to big band music, playing trombone, and swimming. His interests expanded throughout his life. The light of his life was Marian, whom he felt incredibly blessed to have met and shared so many years. Lowell was a quiet, humble man– a devoted husband and father; an honest and conscientious worker, neighbor, and citizen; a man of stories, of workshop wizardry, and possessed a gentle, sensitive heart. Blessed be his memory.

Lowell is survived by sons, Paul (Sandy), Moorhead, Mn; Dean (Sandy), Fertile; granddaughter Beth (Erik) Fladhammer, Ortonville, Mn; and grandson Joey (Leslie) Rasmussen, Euclid, Mn. Also surviving are sister Fern Rasmussen, Whitewater, WI; in-laws Wilma Rasmussen, Vacaville, CA; Ardyth Rasmussen, Salem, OR; Ordelle Findlay, Los Angeles, CA; Arden and Dianne Buchholz, Howard, OH. He was preceded in death by wife, Marian (2009), son David (2015), his parents and siblings Gordon, Joan, Don, and John.
