Obituary for Lonny Carlson

Lonny Carlson, age 53, of Trail, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 24th, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5th, at Thriving Life Church in Erskine with Pastor Jim Binder officiating. Interment will be in Lund Lutheran Cemetery, Gully. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, March 4th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Gonvick American Legion, the Gully American Legion and the Naval Honors Team. The funeral will be live-streamed on the Carlin Facebook page and will be available on the Carlin website later in the day Saturday. Lonny Michael Carlson was born on November 5th, 1968 in Bagley, MN to parents Robert and Noreen (Brovold) Carlson. He grew up North of Gully, MN, and graduated from the Gonvick/Trail High School in 1987.

He went on to serve in the US Navy from July 1987 to May 1993. He served in the Persian Gulf War and received an honorable discharge at the rank of an E5 GSM (Gas Turbine Mechanic) for jet propulsion aboard ships.

He served as the Commander of the Gully American Legion.

He married Tammy Lynn Miller of Fosston, MN on July 19th, 1997 in Lund Lutheran Church of Gully, MN.

He worked at Sanford Health in Thief River Falls, MN as Class A Chief Engineer for over 15 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid bibliophile with a love of history, and was passionate about playing the drums; especially for Thriving Life Church of Erskine, MN.

Lonny passed away on February 24th, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his paternal and maternal grandparents, and by many aunts and uncles.

Lonny is survived by his wife, Tammy, and his son, Ted Russell Carlson. He is also survived by his brother, Cory and his wife Lori (Miller) Carlson, his sister, Alisa (Carlson) and her husband Terry Halvorson, uncle Rodney Brovold, along with 3 nieces and 5 nephews.
