Melvina Lussier Smith

Melvina Lussier Smith, 99, two months short of being 100, of Red Lake, MN began her spiritual journey Monday, August 24, 2026 at the Jourdain Perpich Extended Care Facility in Red Lake, MN.

She was born on October 17, 1926, in Red Lake, MN, to Adam and Mary (Beaulieu) Lussier. Her early education was at St. Mary’s Mission Boarding School, later Melvina attended school in Flandreau, SD. In 1948 Melvina married Paul L. Smith. Together they raised seven children. Though private and very quiet, Melvina was dedicated to her family and her Catholic Faith. Later in life, Melvina enjoyed traveling with her husband and son Ira. Together they enjoyed seeing the country. Winters in Yuma, AZ were their favorite.

She is survived by her: Daughters, Marsha Boldt, Laura (Jim) Maher, Paula Cotter, and Romelle Smith,

Son, Paul (Norine) Smith Jr.

Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her; parents Adam and Mary Lussier, husband Paul Smith Sr., son Ira Smith, daughter Georgia Gebeck, grandson Jack Gebeck, son-in-law Rollie Boldt, special nephew Joe Bee, brothers Charles Lussier, Emil Lussier, James Lussier, Martin Lussier, and Richard Lussier, sisters Rose McFarland, Clara Lussier, Angeline Herr, Anna Garrigan, James Donnell, Elsie Sayers, Dora Hart, Laura Barrett, and Patricia White.

Memorial Mass arrangements are pending at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN. Interment is pending at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.
