Tractor Trivia

When I was young I loved reading about old tractors, some things never change!  I loved learning about tractors that we had or I had heard about.  I really didn’t pay attention to the “new” tractors as much.  I didn’t read much about 4020s or 4430s.  I liked John Deere As, Bs, Gs, and Rs.  I also liked H and M Farmalls.  I knew a little about Cases and Allis Chalmers.  I didn’t really pay attention to the “little” tractors.  I thought little Ford 8Ns were too small and who would want a little A Farmall or M John Deere. But now as I am older I am a little intrigued by those smaller tractors.
I had heard my dad brag of the deeds of his Stanke’s 8N Ford or Shelquists A Farmall, but until recently I was not that interested.  I couple summers ago my wonderful wife attended a show with me near Miltona, MN.  It was the Rose CIty Threshing show.  It just happened they were celebrating the year of the Massey.  There were a few Pony Masseys on display.  That is one tractor I had never been around, but the nicely restored little tractors looked interesting.
Massey had had  success with some of their larger tractors.  They decided they needed to add a tractor to their line up for the small farmers.  Henceforth came the Massey Harris Pony. Recently I went to Sebeka, Minnesota, to attend a Red Eye Tractor Club meeting. I have enjoyed and attended there show the last few summers. In the shop they has a Pony Massey Harris they were working on, possibly to raffle off.  I have never had the chance so far, but I think I’d like to take a ride on a little Pony…...Massey Harris that is!
