8N vs the A Farmall

I have loved old tractors as long as I can remember. That love I know came from my dad(and mom too). Growing up I listened intently to many stories of tractors that dad owned when he started farming or those that neighbors had bought and farmed with. I was fascinated and still am with tractor stories. One time I asked my dad what is the tractor that he wished he would have owned. Dad, like me grew up with mostly John Deere tractors. Depending on the day the day you asked(probably not the day of a breakdown)I am sure dad would have told you that John Deere is his favorite brand. But, I was not surprised that one tractor he would have liked to have owned was an 8N Ford. I had heard the stories of his neighbors, the Stanke’s in Clearbrook when he was growing up and they had a Ford 8N.  Although small in stature dad told stories of the little Ford. The three point hitch was a handy feature for the day. After doing a little research on the Ford tractor line I realized that yes, I think I would like a little Ford of my own.
One fun story I remember my dad telling was one time dad was over to the Stanke farm visiting. Duane Shelquist came over to visit too. The Shelquists had a Farmall A and that is what Duane was driving when he came into the Stanke’s yard. Apparently the discussion was surrounding what tractor could our pull the other-the 8N Ford or the A Farmall?!? To answer that question the two tractors were hitched drawbar to drawbar with a chain the pull began……Who won???....Well cheers to all of you Farmall fans! Apparently the little A Farmall was able to pull the Ford around the yard!
I have a puzzle that my sister made for me. She glued it together and framed it and gave it to me. It shows a G John Deere and a Farmall M, also hooked drawbar to drawbar. I don’t know for sure what they call the picture, or puzzle, but I do know I would be pulling for the John Deere. But, what I really wish is I had a puzzle of that 8N Ford hooked to that A Farmall hooked together south of Clearbrook, that would make an even better picture to me!
