Deloris Nelson, 90, of Clearbrook, MN passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the Cornerstone Nursing & Rehab Center in Bagley, MN.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Clearbrook with a visitation one hour prior. The interment will be at Friendship Cemetery in Leon Township. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Deloris was born on July 7, 1932 in Gonvick, MN. She attended country school in rural Gonvick and completed her high school education in town. After graduation she worked at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Deloris married Loren Nelson, the love of her life and best friend, in a garden wedding on July 21, 1956 at her sister’s home in Gonvick, MN. After the wedding, Deloris became a homemaker, but also worked with Loren on the farm. They had five children.
Deloris was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and enjoyed making lefse and baking, gardening beautiful flowers, and sharing her hospitality by opening her home to family and friends often. She was also a Minnesota DNR Fire Warden and a member of the Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers organization where she volunteers many hours.
Aside from her family, her faith was also extremely important to her, and it was evident in many ways throughout her life. Deloris and Loren were long time members of the First Baptist Church of Clearbrook. Deloris was involved as a deaconess, a Sunday school teacher, Awana leader, served on the mission board, was part of the ladies’ mission’s circle, and served on many other committees.
She is survived by her five children, Richard (Sandi) Nelson of Clearbrook, Tami (Orin) Kalhagen of Forest Lake, Gerald (Terri) Nelson of Clearbrook, Dwight Nelson of Solway, Trudi (Gary) Kelm of Bemidji; her 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Nelson; her parents, Axel and Marie (Snobeck) Johnson; her sister, Arlyss (Johnson) Emmel; brother, Harlyn Johnson; and half-brother, Selmer Okstad.
