Lance Rivera, 67, of Bagley, MN, died on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Cease Funeral Home in Bagley, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at Bagley City Cemetery. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Lance was born on July 5, 1954 in Bagley, Minnesota to Alice (Volden) Rivera. He attended Bagley Schools and played basketball, football, and ran track. He graduated from Bagley High School and went on to further his education, graduating from Moorhead State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Lance moved back to Clearwater Country briefly after college and worked for the Clearbrook Police Department. He went on to work at Joliet Correctional Center in Chicago. Lance was never one to stay too long in one position. He liked to gain new experiences and opportunities, especially in his career. Lance became an engineer and worked for companies like 3M, a medical device company, and a company that built wind turbines. Always one for adventure, Lance jumped at the opportunity to travel to Scotland to share the wind turbine technology with engineers across the ocean.
Lance had a strong Christian faith and was very involved in his church in the cities. He both funded and attended missionary work in Haiti and other places to help build churches and help people in need. Lance loved adventure and seeing the world. He had real estate around the United States as well as Belize. He enjoyed the idea of flying ultralight aircraft, liked flying drones, kayaking, and sailing. He even owned a sailboat in Florida for a time and would rent it out to people for deep sea fishing and sightseeing. Lance always had a story to tell. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Blessed be his memory.
Lance is survived by his siblings, Gwen Dougherty, Joe (Diana) Rivera, David (Janis) Rivera, and Daniel (Dawn) Rivera; his long-time companion, Jane Knutson; his good friend, Dave Nyce; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
Lance was preceded in death by his mom, Alice Rivera; and his brother, Roger Rivera.
