Lyle Stanley Nelson, age 93, a Clearbrook native and long-time resident of Fort Myers, Florida passed away November 29, 2021 in his home with his family.
Lyle was born in 1928 in Clearbrook, Minnesota to the late Selmer and Judith Nelson and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1949. While completing his 21-year military career, during which he was stationed in numerous locations both domestic and abroad, Lyle obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Omaha University (now the University of Nebraska-Omaha) and the University of Southern California respectively. After rising to the rank of Major and being honorably discharged from the armed services in Maryland in 1970, Lyle embarked a second, 22-year career as an educator. Lyle relocated to Fort Myers in 1973 and ultimately retired in 1992 following a long and successful career at Fort Myers Middle School.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bonnie Nelson of Fort Myers; his three children, Richard Nelson (Bonita) of Madison, Alabama, Terrence Nelson of Fort Myers, and Pamela Reynolds (Dennis) of Weston, Florida; and his two grandchildren, Lyla and Lauren. Lyle was predeceased by his brother, Merle Nelson of Yankton, South Dakota.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to the caring staff of Hope Hospice, who helped make Lyle’s final weeks peaceful and calming. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lyle Nelson may be made to Hope Hospice.
