Win-E-Mac’s McKeever honored with State AAA Award

Win-E-Mac school has a lot of students to be proud of, students who excel in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts. One of these students, Madison McKeever shines bright in all three categories. This accomplishment won her the Minnesota State High School League Triple “A” award Saturday morning during a banquet at the Loews Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Madison was one of 4 students across the state who received recognition for their achievements during halftime of the Class AA Boys Basketball State Championship game at Target Center, in Minneapolis, and walked off the court with a trophy, just a small symbol of a huge accomplishment.

“The Triple “A” Award is one of the most coveted awards presented to students in Minnesota,” said Judy Redman, associate director of the Minnesota State High School League. “Since its inception in 1988, over 13,000 students have represented their school in the Triple “A” program.”

The Triple “A” Award recognizes and rewards high school seniors from across the state for their achievements in the classroom, arts and athletics. To qualify for the award, students must have a “B” or better grade point average and participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities. League member schools are invited to nominate two students, a boy and a girl, for the award. Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process involving Leagues administrative regions and a committee of athletic, fine arts and educational leaders. Each student receives a four-year $1,000 scholarship from the Minnesota State High School League.

Madison, a Senior at Win-E-Mac, has a long list of notable accomplishments. She has played varsity girls basketball since the 7th grade, and has been starting, on a consistent basis at point guard since the 8th grade. That dedication earned her over 3,000 career points in basketball, one of only 13 girls in Minnesota who have reached 3,000 points during their high school basketball career. 

Besides sports, Madison in in the high school band, playing saxophone, a member of the choir, is student council co-president, participates in National Honor Society,  and performed in the high school plays.

Madison has signed to play basketball at NCAA Division I University of South Dakota next year. She plans on majoring in elementary education.
