The Granlund Lodge #240 of the Sons of Norway will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday evening, September 10, at 6:30 pm at the Embassy Community Center in Fosston. After the meeting, the annual soup and chili meal will be held followed by a program. Lori and Tennis Balstad, will be sharing information and memories of their recent trip to Norway. Members are encouraged to bring a soup or chili to share. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, lunch and program or just for the program which will begin at approximately 7:30.
In addition to their monthly meeting, come to Heritage Days at the East Polk Heritage Center in Fosston on September 12th, where Granlund Lodge will have a tent set up with events and displays from 9 AM - 1:30 pm. In the Moen Schoolhouse, demos and displays will be set up featuring Rosemaling, Hardanger embroidery, spinning, basket weaving, and lefse and krumkake to taste. - United Lutheran Church at Berner will be having their annual fall dinner on September 20th from noon to 1:30. Menu for the dinner includes Roast beef, homemade lefse, Fedje farm mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, pumpkin dessert, corn, and all the trimmings.

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church at Trail with Pastor Peter Estrem will be having a final regular worship service on September 12 at 9:00 a.m. with Holy Communion. On September 19 at 11:00 a.m., a special service will be held to celebrate 108 years of ministry and history of Mr. Olive Lutheran Church along with the decommissioning of the church building. A potluck meal will follow at the Pavillion. All are welcome to join as they gather in gratitude, remembrance and fellowship.

Firearm and muzzleloader hunters who want to harvest antlerless deer in a deer permit area that is designated as antlerless permit lottery must purchase their license by Thursday, Sept. 10. Hunters who purchase their license (mndnr.gov/buyalicense) by Sept. 10 are automatically entered into the lottery for the DPA they declare.

We collect used eyeglasses in the Richards Publishing office in Gonvick. They are for the Lions Club.
Minnesota voters are deciding this fall whether schools should get more money from a state trust fund. The constitutional amendment would increase payouts from the Permanent School Fund. The fund was established in 1858 with proceeds from the sale of timber and minerals. Supporters say the change could give districts more flexible funding without raising taxes. Advocates are trying to raise awareness of the amendment because ballots with the question left blank will be counted as no votes against the proposal.
Shop local. Eat fresh! Market on Main Street, Clearbrook (MOMS) is the new name for Bakken’s Grocery as part of their rebranding. They had specail events last week. They are now offering broasted chicken on Wednesdays. You can expect fresh produce, quality meat, and more as they invest in the store. Look for professionally smoked meats to be available in the near future. The rebranding and refresh—including the new name, updated signage, and renovated store environment—ensure that Market on Main Street, Clearbrook remains a trusted neighborhood grocery destination with a look to the future.

Tidbits
An accident on Sunday morning just east of Gonvick with a van and a horse and buggy. A reminder that they do go slower as you catch up rather fast with them. Everything was OK and the buggy was turned over. It could have been worse.
There was a nice article on Popple Tree Creek farm in the Minnkota Messenger magazine this month. Ben and Kori Mchlitt of Clearbrook are growing elderberries on more than 5,0000 individual plants. They have 30 varieties of elderberry and they are busy finishing the batches in their commercial kitchen.
Clearwater-Polk Electric Cooperative broke ground on their new building project. It is located north of Bagley on 370th St. Gordon Construction and MJB Architects and board members were there to take the first shovel full.
O.K. Fire and Fencing is organizing a Kiddo Rodeo immediately following the events at pumpkin days in Gonvick at 5pm September 26th 2026! They will be holding this event at the rodeo grounds in Gonvick. Every child gets a turn and a prize for participating! There is no entry fee to children but they do accept free will donations from the adult audience to help offset the cost of organizing the rodeo.

The 2026 wild rice season and the Minnesota DNR reminds harvesters that it is illegal to harvest rice stands until they are fully ripe. Trying to harvest rice before it is ripe can damage the plants not only for this year, but for years to come. Harvesters are allowed to take wild rice during the harvesting season from Aug.15 through Sep. 30, but Minnesota’s “Green Rice Law” prohibits the taking of unripe or “green” rice.
