Spring turkey hunt bring success to local hunter

On April 30th, the first day of the Spring Turkey season, brought success to local hunter, Vincent Dessellier.
This was the first time hunting turkey for Dessellier and the season is only 5 days long. The day before, a neighbor that knew he had the license, saw turkeys in one of the fields around Dessellier home and Dessellier said that it wasn’t the season until tomorrow. He did see the two turkeys as they wandered on his land, but they were hens and the spring hunt is for toms, not hens.
The next day Dessellier was busy working around his place when he realized it was mid-day and he gathered up his equipment of decoys, calls and his gun. He also brought a puzzle book with, as he figured he would be sitting for a long period waiting for a tom to come in.
Once he had the decoys set up and had used the calls, he started doing a puzzle. Dessellier had just finished the first puzzle when two toms came. One got skittish and left, but the other stayed long enough for Dessellier to take his shot.
The tom was 23 lbs and had a beard that was 9 inches long. Dessellier and his wife Shirley, were looking forward to enjoying their first wild turkey this past weekend.
So Vincent Dessellier was a very lucky hunter getting his first bird the first time he bought a license. Shirley says it was delicious and the Tom furnished 23 meals.
