On Solid Ground
At the top of the hill stood a tent. Twas years back before barely a beaten path was trod hillside. Invited into the tent were souls yearning to hear more of the Gospel. Gospel fellowship was in full bloom upon the hill as the prayers prayed touched lives. The ground went from fallow to fertilized soil as the Holy Spirit poured forth.
Years passed and although seeds had been planted, the tent was no longer. All was quiet upon the hill…or was it? One might think the ground was no longer fertile, but not so. It was merely fallow, lying in wait for others who would come after, taking pause for that which was not yet seen. And soon, others did come.
One family moved on up hilltop to build a house. Not only did they build a house, but they built a home. Soon, one more family joined them on ground nearby and prayers were lifted high upon the hill once again.
As rotation is good for the soil and for the soul, years passed and one house eventually stood empty on the hill. After faithful prayers had been prayed and their labor spent, little did they know of what was to come. Preparing a place for others was the unseen journey ahead.
Others were looking for a space of grace in which to find respite, and they did. The little couple looked no further once the space upon the hill opened—like an offering it was—a home for their own as ownership was deeded over.
Once our eyes are opened, we see. We see as His plans and we see what had been prepared all along. We see Him moving round and about—in and out of all things as He goes before us always just like Deuteronomy 31:8 reveals. Who knew that the little tent upon the hill would wash through prayer—all that would come after.
And so, it is with each of us—you, me, we. Jesus has gone before us, paving the roads upon that which we travel. Like a ribbon of highway set forth, there is a path. We need not always forge one anew. We need merely follow His lead which may lead to ground that had been prepped and awaiting—renewing itself for that which was to come. It is most sacred, this journey in life. Hindsight they say is 20/20 but so, too, foresight may be.
Do we have the foresight to see the ending before the beginning? I pray so, and thus we pray, “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, now and ever shall be, world without end.” Amen.
