Services for Gladys E. Lindberg

Gladys E. Lindberg, 98, of Fertile, MN, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, after a brief illness and with her family by her side.

Gladys Eunice Lindberg was born January 28, 1920, near McIntosh, MN, to parents Charles and Hilma Enevold Svalen. Gladys grew up in rural McIntosh and attended Foot Lake Country School across the road from the family home. She worked on the family farm, with the dairy cows and potato fields.

Gladys was united in marriage to Arthur Lindberg in Winger, MN, on November 25, 1943. Art was in the service so they moved to Brownwood, TX and Shreveport, LA. When Art was called overseas, Gladys returned to McIntosh to help out on the family farm. After the war they settled on a farm, four miles southeast of Fertile, where they made their home, bought the farm and raised their three children, Lyle, Connie, and Gary.

Gladys was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church, McIntosh. As a married couple Gladys and Art were members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fertile. Gladys was always active in her church. She was a Sunday School teacher, a lifetime member of the Ladies' Aid, served on the Altar Guild and worked on many of the mission projects. She worked side by side with her husband on their farm and loved the country life. She was especially talented in quilting.  She made hundreds of quilts for family and various missions, including Lutheran World Relief, the women's shelter in Thief River Falls, Ronald McDonald House, Tanzania and Uganda schools and clinics, and Alzheimer's patients. She loved her flower gardening and had quite a reputation for making delicious lefse and flatbread. Gladys moved into town in 2000 and continued to be active, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and visiting nursing home residents regularly.

In 2014 she moved into the assisted living complex in Fertile where she continued to visit nursing home residents and work on quilts. Gladys was the eternal optimist and could always see the sun peeking out from the gray skies.

Survivors include her two sons, Lyle (Barbara) Lindberg, of Fargo, ND, and Gary (Teresa) Lindberg of Aurora, CO; her daughter, Constance (Arnold) Reinhard, of Aitkin, MN; six grandchildren, Danny Osmondson, Brad Wiemann, Joel Reinhard, Charlie Lindberg, Jessica Lindberg, and Brandon Lindberg; 10 great grandchildren, Jake, Jesse, Trevon, Trace, Chloe,Victor, Parker, Kaden, Jordan, and Hannah; two brothers, Charles Svalen, McIntosh, MN, and Delano (Arleen) Svalen, Braddock, ND, a sister-in-law, Janice Svalen, McIntosh, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur; two brothers, Stanley and Frank; and four sisters, Clarice, Irene, Florence, and Muriel.
