How does one go on after the loss of a child? When you are a single mother of four you really have no choice. Lori Lucken’s son Nash was born April 5, 2012. Soon after his birth, and some very scary times, it was determined that Nash was born with a very rare blood disorder. So rare that is doesn’t even have a name.
For two years blood donations gave Lori and her family precious time with Nash. Time to make memories. Nash required round the clock care so Lori quit her job. Even with much of his short life spent in hospitals, Lori made sure Nash experienced the things other children his age did, including have the port in his chest wrapped in saran wrap so he could enjoy the beach.
Nash lost his battle with this mysterious disorder and entered heaven on April 29, 2014.
The three F’s : faith, family and friends have provided Lori with comfort during this most difficult time.
Lori is determined to keep Nash’s memory alive by being a champion for blood donations. If a blood drive is being held anywhere within 100 miles, you can rest assured that Lori will let you know about it. She also sponsors a blood drive in memory of Nash in her small hometown of Winger, MN annually on Nash’s birthday.
Lori also has set up a fund to make donations in Nash’s memory to the Children’s Miracle Network, specifically Sanford Children’s hospital in Fargo. Nash spent much of his short life at Sanford and was provided with exceptional care. Beside donations Lori also sells t-shirts with Nash’s picture in the superman logo on the front. The t-shirts were made possible through donations from area businesses so 100 percent of the proceeds from the t-shirts are donated to Sanford Children’s Hospital.
As Lori struggled to settle into her new normal without Nash, she knew she had to make a living to take care of her children. She wanted to do something that would allow her a flexible schedule to be there for her other children. Enter Lori’s family packed with entrepreneurs. What better footsteps to follow in. Lori decided to start her own business. North Country Detailing was born.
