MN State Horticultural Society presents Crystal Leaf Awards

The Minnesota State Horticultural Society — 12th District — awarded their annual Crystal Leaf Awards at the fall meeting in Bemidji, MN.  Garden clubs select and honor deserving individuals from their community.  They receive a genuine Austrian Crystal Leaf and Certificate for their contributions to “advancing the knowledge, science and appreciation of horticulture within the communities in our district”. 
Bemidji — Peter Buesseler — Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society board member, launched “Birds, Bees and Butterflies” campaign (promoting native plants to benefit birds & pollinators), brochure development, collaborating with 12 organizations for mass seedling plantings, presenting workshops to improve environmental quality.
Blackduck — Jackie Barclay — “Tuberous Begonia Expert”, created Garden Club Cookbook, Youth Projects, local & district officer duties, fair booths, UffDa Taco fundraiser and assisting with numerous projects to beautify the community.
Cass Lake — Nancy Patterson — “Rescue Lady” for plants and animals, Flower/ Garden Show Grand Champion ribbons, numerous committees, gardening help for others with physical limitations, “Carrot Queen”, loves yard rocks & zinnias.
Park Rapids — Joy Julkowski — Master Gardener, wild flower expert, raised & released Monarch butterflies, many officer duties, Plant Sale Fundraiser manager, community beautification projects, State Fair Booth and presenter of numerous workshops. 
Shevlin — Sue Lundmark — Hybridizes day lilies, propagates and shares unique plants,  designed and cared for community flower beds, donated hundreds of plants to club fundraisers, giving tours of her extensive gardens and sharing her love of plants with young & old.
Shevlin — Ron Sjostrand — “Plant Encyclopedia”, heirloom garden seed hybridizer, has dozens of his new varieties planted in the Research & Development garden at Merry Gardens Farm, plants roadside veggies with a “Please Eat Me” sign, community speaker, loves sharing information about his ‘plant grand children’.
