The Hero Hustle 5K was held at Oklee Market Day on August 14th, 2021. This was the 5th year the Hero Hustle 5K has been promoting organ, eye and tissue donation at the race.
A virtual 5k option was offered for the 5k as well as the race day event. The virtual 5K is a great option for people that live a distance away but still want to be a part of the race. We had 100 entries this year and it was a great turn out of family and friends of organ donors and recipients that attended the 5K.
Each year we have a Hero Walk which is photos lined up of organ donors and recipients. These photos represent family and friends of many people around the area who have given the gift of life through organ donation and many of the photos are of people who have received transplants also.
At the Hero Hustle we had four guests that attended that all had heart transplants, it’s a true miracle to have these people with us and such an honor to have them attend the Hero Hustle 5K. The funds that our raised at the Hero Hustle are being donated to The Second Chance For Life Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota and a total of $4,318.60 was raised that day.
We also had Jim Berg and Scott Stevens join us from The Second Chance for Life and Laura Lovdahl from LifeSource was able to attend also. Jim, Scott and Laura were set up with organ donation information and gifts for everyone to take home. It was an honor to have them join us for the day.
The Hero Hustle Committee would like to thank everyone for participating in this years event and thank you to our sponsors for helping us put on the 5K, without them we would not be able to have the event. The small community of Oklee is truly amazing for the support we get from the businesses that sponsor us. We look forward to seeing everyone at next years race.
Don’t forget to check the box and become an organ donor.
