East Polk Heritage Day Sept. 9

Music, traditional arts and crafts, children’s activities, food and more will all be included in the 2017 East Polk Heritage Day held on September 9 in Fosston. The festivities begin on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM at the Heritage Center Grounds.
A full day of activities will feature something for everyone! Children can take part in the Kids Fun Run. Sponsored by Thrivent Financial and Essentia Health of Fosston, youngsters can begin registering at 8:00 AM at the picnic shelter. They can choose from a 1K or 2K run that will begin at 9:00.
A back porch concert will be performed by “The Snowmen”. Back by popular demand these entertaining musicians will begin performing at 11:00. Lunch under the picnic shelter will also begin at that time.
Two dedications will be held this year. At 10:00, the Lade School Bell will be dedicated. This past year, a bell tower was constructed to showcase this historic bell. Former teachers and students will be honored at the dedication. At 2:00 a re-dedication of the Wayside Chapel will be held to recognize the beautiful new stained glass windows that were installed this year. Sponsored by the Fosston Athenian Club, a cake and ice cream reception will follow.
Other activities throughout the day will include Scandinavian arts and food demonstrations in the Moen School Building, line-dancing, a Children’s Tent will have craft activities, hay rides will be offered and vintage tractors will be on display.
Forged in Fosston will again be demonstrating two blocks east of the heritage center at Ventures. The Fosston Farmer’s Market will be hosting additional vendors for the day.
Heritage Days began in the 1990’s to celebrate the history of East Polk County. It has been held annually providing opportunities for learning, sharing and being entertained with talents and experiences that honor the past.
All activities are free and open to the public. Plan to attend and invite your friends!
