County Fair starts July 31st

 The 113th annual Clearwater County Fair runs July 31 through Aug. 4, and the grandstand entertainment lineup includes:

Wednesday: Christian music singer Kent Dudley at 7 p.m.

Thursday: Barrel racing, pole bending, and Rhythm and Riding. Rhythm and Riding starts at 7 p.m., with the racing events starting about 7:45 or 8 p.m.

Friday: Red River Valley Pullers and their modified tractors and souped-up pickup trucks in pulling contests at 7 p.m.

Saturday: Out-of-field tractors and semis, featuring all sorts of local favorites, in pulling contests that start at 1 p.m. (Please note that the fair premium list says noon, but this has been changed to 1 p.m.) Then at 7 p.m. street legal pickup trucks will pull the weighted sled.

Sunday: The ever-pleasing demolition derbies begin with the Chain & Go, Compacts and Full Size classes starting at 2 p.m. Then a new event, the pickup demo derby, will start at 7 p.m., along with the consolation and feature events.

Last year the featured vegetable was cucumbers. This year it’s zucchini. The zucchini contest judging is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Petersen Pavilion. Enter your best of zucchini breads, pies, cakes, muffins or other delicacy at the pavilion at 7 p.m.

Then on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., again at the Petersen Pavilion, the Zucchini Derby will be held. Build your best derby vehicle with a zucchini! Register your wheeled zucchini at the pavilion between 1 and 2 p.m.

Other contests at the pavilion include:

Beer, wine and homemade liqueur at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday;

Hotdish contest at 7 p.m. Thursday;

Lego contest at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Specifics for the above contests are in the premium list, which you can pick up at any bank in the county.

The Emerging Leaders recognition takes place at the pavilion at 5 p.m. Friday.

The Senior Citizens of the Year will be recognized at the stage in the pines at 11 a.m. Saturday;

The fair flea market and craft show will be offered from 9 a.m. til 4 p.m. on Saturday in the pines on the west side of the fairgrounds;

Live music on the stage in the pines daily;

Demonstrations on the stage in the pines from 2-4:30 p.m. Friday;

4-H Premier showmanship at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the livestock arena;

4-H awards program at 2 p.m. Sunday in the livestock arena;

Premier 4-H Livestock auction at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the livestock arena;

Emerging Leaders program at 3 p.m. Sunday in the livestock arena.

Little Tots horse show at 9 a.m. Friday;

Open horse show at 9 a.m. Saturday;

Draft horse show at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Dog shows

The 4-H dog shows will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 27, featuring obedience and rally, agility, and showmanship.

The 4-H fun dog show takes place at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The open dog show takes place at 10 a.m. Sunday.

All the dog shows will be held on the west side of the hockey arena.
