Clearbrook-Gonvick’s One Act play earns Second Place trophy

The Clearbrook-Gonvick High School's One Act play cast brought home the second place trophy from competition at the Sub-Section 29A One Act play contest held at the Bagley High School on Saturday, January 20, 2016.
Their award-winning play cast included Kendehl Ballard, Callie Baker, Jeanette Ballard, Xavier Goodwin, Cami Johnson, Cam Danielson, Sierra
Walters, Jaszmyn Smith, and student director-Taylor Volker. They were coached by Clearbrook-Gonvick High School English teacher Mark Carter.
The name of their One Act play was called "Frumpled Fairy Tales" by Bill Springer. The play is a spoof based on three fairy tales- Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood.
The background set includes a makeshift spinning wheel which spins products into gold, two multi-colored towers, a frizzy-haired doll (representing a baby), and various outfits such as a bride's white dress, a crown (for the Queen who doesn't want to be Queen), a wolf costume, and various other pieces of clothing.
The play cast competed with five other area high schools' One Act plays. These included Bagley, Red Lake County Central (Oklee & Plummer), Win-E-Mac, Fosston, and the Voyageurs Expeditionary School in Bemidji. The judges for the contest were Roberta Freeman, Tanya Miller, and Virginia Schwichtenberg.
Bagley High School's One Act play, "Radium Girls", directed by Marilyn Hood, was awarded the first place trophy and will advance to the Sectionals for Region 8A on Saturday, February 6, 2016.
One of the Clearbrook-Gonvick play cast told me, "We're so excited about getting second place. We wanted to show that there is more to our school than sports!"
