BCA identifies individuals involved in Minneapolis shooting investigation

ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has identified the people who died and the Minneapolis police officers involved in the Sept. 2 shooting in Minneapolis.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the suspected shooter as Carlton Neal Johnson II, 35. According to a preliminary autopsy, Johnson died of multiple gunshot wounds. His manner of death was ruled homicide.

The two civilians have been identified as:

• Dale Henry Spry, 63
• Muse A. Afrah, 61

Both are believed to have been residents of the apartment complex where the shooting occurred.

Two Minneapolis Police Department officers were injured by gunfire during the incident:

• Officer Joseph Michnowski, who has been with the department since 2021
• Officer Yahye Ahmed, who has been with the department since November 2024

The BCA has identified Officer Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, who has been with the Minneapolis Police Department since September 2024, as an officer who discharged his firearm during the incident. Investigators are continuing to determine whether any other officers fired their weapons.
