Roy Jerome “Uncle Roy” Messelt, age 92, formerly of Ham Lake, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023. Born on a farm near Winger, MN, he grew up exploring the outdoors, playing baseball, being a great brother, and reading.
He graduated from McIntosh High School in 1948, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. Serving in the Philippines during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in 1955.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1957. After three years in Chicago, he returned to Minneapolis as a CPA, retiring from Medtronic in 1980. He spent his later years researching financial markets, trying to beat blackjack, following golf, speculating for gold in Alaska, researching his roots in Norway, being a great uncle, and reading. He read incessantly; politics, world events, science, sports, or anything of intellect. He focused on narcolepsy, and spent his adult life helping his doctors find a cure for those like him coping with the disorder.
He is preceded in death by parents, Ole & Agnes; three sisters, Beulah, Aileen, Florence, and their spouses; and brothers, Orville and Myron and their spouses, and brother Noel. Survived by sister-in-law, Sharon, and many nieces & nephews, relatives & friends.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be hosted by his family on Thursday, December 14th at 11 AM, with visitation from 10 AM, at Roberts Family Funeral Home in Forest Lake, MN. Private interment at Storelvedalen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor’s choice. The family would like to thank Ecumen Hospice and Ecumen Staff of North Branch for their loving care.
