On June 3, 2024, Jane Melissa Olson lost her courageous battle with cancer surrounded by all of her family at Altru Health in Grand Forks, ND.
Jane was born July 17, 1967, to Joel and Irene Vesledahl. She spent her childhood on a farm near Winger, MN. She was affectionately called “Baby Jane” by her parents and siblings, that is, until Tracy and Jon came along. Jane was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from McIntosh/Winger High School in 1985, where she was an active musician in band and choir and was involved in many musical plays in the high school and community. Jane always excelled in vocal music. She was selected to participate in the International Music Ambassadors program, which allowed her to attend Music Camp at the Peace Gardens and travel to several European countries as part of the Music Ambassadors team.
Jane went to Cosmetology school in St. Cloud, MN, and was a local hairdresser in McIntosh and Erskine for many years, where she showed her love for her older clientele.
On October 11, 1986, Jane was united in marriage to Dale Olson at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger. They made their home and raised their seven children near Winger and Fertile, MN. Jane made celebrations and holidays special for her children and grandchildren. She loved her role as a grandmother, always finding her grandchildren special gifts for birthdays and Christmas. Her kids and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never wanted to miss a sporting or church event if they were involved.
In August of 2005, Jane started working at McIntosh Senior Living, serving in numerous positions—her final position as a Social Services Designee. Jane devoted many years to serving her beloved residents. She was loved dearly by her co-workers and the residents, and she loved them just as much. Jane later resigned from her position at McIntosh Senior Living after being diagnosed with cancer, which made it hard for her to continue working. It was difficult for Jane as she truly had a gift for serving this population of individuals.
Jane and Dale had a passion for traveling and seeing all of their children and grandchildren as often as they could. Some of her most cherished trips were to Florida, Virginia, Montana, and Utah to see her daughters and grandchildren. Jane and Dale made two trips to Washington, DC, to attend the March for Life rally, an event that’s held to support the rights of the unborn. These trips were highlighted by stops at the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in Kentucky. The grandkids enjoyed this part of the trip as they were able to attend as well.
One of Jane’s greatest last memories was to have a vacation to Florida where all her family could be together one last time. This trip meant the world to her, and she loved every minute spent watching the kids play, listening to the ocean, and just being together.
Jane is survived by her husband, Dale; children: Brittany (Alex) Thompson of Hillsboro, ND, Betsy (Carl) Cunnane of Springfield, VA, Molly (Cory) Moon of Layton, UT; Daniel (Brittany) Olson of Winger, Jordan Olson of Fertile, Nicholas Olson also of Fertile, and Kalli Olson of Missoula MT; grandchildren: Joel, Eli, Oliver, Alexa, Amari, Ambree, Kohen, Kolt, Lillian, Asher, Wyatt, Brenna, Rylee and soon to be baby Ezra. Her siblings also survive her: Devra (Steve) Carlson, Gwen (Bruce) Benbo, Amy (Gary) Wierschke, David (Theresa) Vesledahl, Paul Vesledahl, Tracy (Jim) Strom, and Jon (Wendy) Vesledahl, her aunt, Sarajane Hanson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Megan Olson; her parents, Joel and Irene Vesledahl; sister, Jeannie Vesledahl.
A private family celebration of life will be held.
To honor Jane, memorials can be sent to McIntosh Senior Living Mcintosh, MN, or Traill County Blooms Hillsboro, ND.
Blessed be Jane’s memory.
