Dean G. Godtland, 92, of Bagley, MN died on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 25, 2024 at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be held at Samhold Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Dean was born November 23, 1931 in Gonvick, MN, the son of Peter and Nora (Herberg) Godtland. He graduated from Crookston Agricultural school in 1949. He enlisted in the US Air Force, serving from 1951-1955, part of his service was in Iceland. He moved to Gonvick to farm. He married Arvilla Homme April 26, 1958. He worked for Bagne Oil Co. and in 1967 he purchased a garage with his brother Irvin, calling it D&I Service. He later bought out his brother and named it Dean’s Service, selling it in 1987. Eventually he and Arvilla moved to Warroad where he worked for Marvin Windows, retiring in 1998. Arvilla passed away May 24, 1997. He married Dianne Huseth August 5, 2000. They lived between the farm in Gonvick and the river in Warroad. They made their home in Bagley 2 years ago. He served as mayor of Gonvick for 6 years, Samhold Lutheran board member for years, member of the American Legion in Gonvick, serving as commander, volunteer fireman, fire chief, and Gonvick Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling, trying to fix things, and spending time with his family.
Dean is survived by his wife, Dianne Huseth Godtland, children, Steve (Cathy) Godtland, Pam (Jeff) Massie, and Julie (Tim) Sturges, Dianne’s children, Glen (Cheryl) Huseth, Julie Huseth, and Donna (Steve) Pfeiffer, sister-in-law, Delores Lund, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by first wife, Arvilla, and 11 brothers and sisters.
