Clara Hesse passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN, at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN with Reverend Frank Ehling officiating. Burial will follow at the Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, MN.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN.
Clara Lillian Berg was born January 9, 1920 at Badger, MN, the daughter of Peder E. and Marie (Sunderland) Berg. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith. She attended country school and in 1936, Clara graduated from Red Lake Falls High School. She then attended Normal training in Red Lake Falls, MN. She then taught in country schools for 3 years
On February 20, 1941, Clara was united in marriage to Florian Hesse in Plummer. Together they farmed north of Plummer, which she continued after Florian was disabled. She was the Site Manager for Senior meals in Plummer for many years.
Clara held offices in the Ladies Aid of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, was a member of Board on Aging in Red Lake County and a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Plummer. She liked wood-making, playing cards, and making quilts - having made over 1,000 quilts for Lutheran World Relief as well as many for family members.
She is survived by 8 children, Florence (Henry) Tvedt, Plummer, MN, Bonnie Nelson, Gatzke, MN, Shirley (John) Haglund, Baudette, MN, Steven (Gay) Hesse, Warroad, MN, Janice (Tom) Glascock-Wilson, Albuquerque, NM, Randall (Julie) Hesse, Bryant, SD, Martin (Valerie) Hesse, Fargo, ND and Linda (Eddy) Olson, Red Lake Falls, MN; 28 Grandchildren; 47 Great-grandchildren; 23 Great Great-grandchildren - with more on the way; and her brother, Lloyd Berg of Ridgefield, WA.
Preceded in death by husband, Florian, infant granddaughter, Kiara Hesse, parents, brothers, Joseph, Conrad, Philip, Wilhelm, Thorvald, Ingvald, Henry and Gerald, sons-in-law, Duane Nelson and Charles Glascock.
