Let's give a local man, Wayne Bergh of Clearbrook, a round of applause for his singing talent. He is going to have a busy summer as he prepares for two well-known concerts.
On Saturday, May 23, 2015 he competed with 47 other musicians at the Event Center in the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen. The contest was called WE Fest Karaoke Roundup, the biggest singing contest in the Midwest. Wayne and the other contestants were vying for being the opening act for Blake Shelton, Rascal Flatts, or Miranda Lambert who will be performing at WE Fest in Detroit Lakes August 6-8, 2015. Other well-known entertainers who will be there include Dierks Bently, Hank Williams, Jr, Jake Owen, Eli Young Band, Big & Rich, and many more.
With WE Fest, there are monetary prizes too of $2500, $1500, and $1500 for the singers who win a slot as the 'opening act'. There is a total of $300,000 cash and prizes donated for the WE Fest Roundup. The prize money comes from many local and area venues.
Last year, Ashley Halvorson of Bagley won third place in the WE Fest Roundup singing competition and was the opening act for Jason Aldean. This year, she is one of the judges for the WE Fest Round Up.
Wayne Bergh came in 4th in the competition at Shooting Star, and advanced to the next round. He will be competing for a final WE Fest singing slot at Walker on June 27.
WE Fest, held at the Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes, got its start in 1983 and has grown into the largest Country Music and Camping festival drawing over 48,000 and providing camping for 9,000 units. This year's WE Fest will be held on August 6-8, 2015.
Besides his participation in WE Fest Roundup, Wayne will be performing at the Kickin' Up Country festival in Karlstad on Thursday evening, June 11, 2015 at 6:30 P.M. He will be performing for 45 minutes on stage as an opening act for singer Justin Lynch.
Wayne's passion is music, but he keeps his day job. He is father to two teenagers-Brenton (a student at Concordia) and Kylie who graduated from BHS May 29, 2015.
