Connie Nelson was Showcase Artist at Gallery North

Gallery North of Bemidji  is featuring Connie Nelson as Showcase Artist. The Clearbrook rosemaler had her rosemaled products on display for an Open House on May 1.
Rosemaking is a decorative painting on wood that originated in the rural areas of Norway. Many designs and shapes are used in the hand painted art. Nelson uses flowers and scrolls in her works. Her friend Adella Lindberg of Leonard provided Norwegian treats to those who attended the showing.
The Open House was held on May 1 but her work will be on display the whole month. The Gallery is located at 502 3rd Street NW and will be open from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Gallery is located in the building just south of the Woolen Mills in Bemidji.
Gallery North is a non-profit cooperative art gallery that has been displaying and selling original art and fine crafts by area artists since 1989. Gallery North is sponsored by Northern Artist Association that gives members a place to display and sell their work. This helps established artists as well as new artists from a wide area to have their work on display.
The Northern Artist Assoication was started in 1972 to promote art interest and art activities in the area. Their goal was to find a place to display the art work of members, to sponsor guests speakers and to have painting sessions. They also participate in Art in the Park and community events.
Also on display for the month of May is Marie Mychal from “Mychal Designs” with her pen and ink artwork and Kat Sanders with her gourd art and handmade artisan glass beads.
