Last school board meeting for school year

The last Clearbrook-Gonvick school board meeting for the school year was held May 20.
A question was asked about the future of baseball and softball now that they have started the programs. They will be evaluating the potential and seeing what has to be done.
Mr. Bettin gave his Spotlight on Education. Many field trips were taken. The second grade went to the Shrine Circus. First grade to the Headwaters Science Center in Bemidji. The sixth grade had a packed day going to the Science Center, Target Field, Ft. Snelling and other places in the Twin Cities. There were trips to Nordlund Farm and there was a petting zoo among other things. He asked the Kindergarten students about their year. They said they were able to open their own milk cartons and they were able to play on the big playground at the end of the year.
Principals report
Josh Tharaldson stated that Summer School Enrollment will be starting June 4 and continuing until June 27th. The classes will be held Tuesday to Thursday and parents are filling out enrollment paperwork for the program.
The registration for next year has been finalized. They are having new course offering. They are 50 7th through 12th grade students in the band for next year.
He urged new families interested in attending school next year to contact the office to start the registration process.
Emily Schroeer, the Extended School Year special Education teacher will be working with students. Two weeks in July and one week in August for 3 days each week.
Superintendent Report
Ryan Grow gave his report with staffing needs that need to be filled for the next year. They will be needing a tech specialist, Art, Science and Early Child teachers along with a girls basketball coach.
He thanked the many community members who came to help with the yard work around the school with their equipment and street sweeper to make the grounds look great for graduation.
The referendum committee has been meeting with 8 to 10 people. They are looking at the survey results and what they are hearing in the community. They are looking at designs again and will be having more meetings this summer.
They received a quote for the upgrade of the bathrooms at $169,554 which was lower that the last bid that quote was for $265,000. They would have to submit the plans to the state for approval and that would take up to 12 weeks. They would have to do the necessary improvements before the start of school.
They have hired Service Master to come in and get the metal and wood shop cleaning done. Also to put two coats of paint in the room before the start of school.

100% of unemployment will be charged to the school district
The oven in the Food Service will have to be replaced in the near future.
Donations to the school district were approved. A note that from 7/1/2023 to 4/30/2024 the total of donations has been $32,156.08 from various organizations and people.
New Business
They hired Bailey Watne as the Early Childhood Special Education Instruction for the coming school year. She is moving from another district and will be at BA Step 2 for $46,907.
They accepted the resignation of Dennis Bower as Custodia and re-hired Jon Heller as Custodian at Step 5. Brenda Wilcox was also hired as custodian at Step 5 $16.56 per hour.
The board had five applicants to fill out the unexpired school board term of Jill Nelson and appointed Ryan Solee.
They approved adding the position of American Indian Education Coordinator for the next school year. That will have to be posted.
They approved the revised 2023-2024 budget. See chart.
The board approved the revision to the MSBA Model Policies and the resolution for membership in the Minnesota State High School League.
The board accepted the Insurance Proposal from Vaaler for the 2024-225 school year at $106,708.79. That is an increase of $19,448 over last year.
The next regular meeting will be June 17 at 7:00 p.m.
