Gonvick City Council meeting

The Gonvick City council met on Thursday, February 13. The minutes of the January 9 meeting were approved.
A resident of the City requested an exception to Ordinance 71 which states "Ordinance Prohibiting the Keeping of Farm Animals. Poultry and Non-Domestic Animals." He wants to have a chicken coop and bee hives on his property that is in the city limits which is restricted by the ordinance. That does include chickens and bees. After discussion the Council decided not to grant the exception.
Police Chief Ryan Solee gave his report which included 18 records. They included: 911 Hang Up 1; Animal Related 2; Assist 1; Civil Process 1; Disturbance, Welfare Check 1; Domestic 1; Extra Patrol 1; Information Only 3; Medical 2; Suspicious Activity 2; Theft 1; Traffic Complaint 1 and Traffic Stop 1.
Fire Chief Cody Rude gave his report on the calls and activity since the last council meeting. They had 3 Medical Calls; 1 Work Night; 1 Meeting; 1 Training Night; they helped Polk County Sheriff Department in locating a missing person; engine one was fixed by Great Plains Fire and now passes the ISO test; the new truck radio is in for Brush one.
At the last regular meeting the fire department held in January there was discussion on updating some of the fire trucks and how they would go about doing that. They received 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab as donation from Enbridge and that will replace the 2007 Chevy 2500 that they have. They are going to sell that 2007 on sealed bids with a minimum bid after their meeting on February 24.
The department received three donations this past month. One from the Gully Area Sportsman's Club for $1000, another from Team Foundation for $5000 to retrofit the tanker truck with a new water transfer pump and hose and another $5000 from Enbridge. This all will be put to good use.
The annual meeting with the township officers will be February 25 at the Gonvick Legion with a social hour at 6 and meal at 7.
There were to be seven Fireman that will attend the Detroit Lakes Fire School on February 15. Some will be attending an introduction to fire fighting course and some taking leadership training and advanced search and rescue.
The Gonvick Fire Building Committee is still working on getting bids for the roof project.
The Gonvick Fire Department breakdown of calls and meetings include: Medical Assist 51; Vehicle Accident 1; Structure Fires 3; Grass Fires 3; Fires - Other 0; False Alarms 0; Misc. Other 1; Work Night 16; Training 8; Meetings 13; Events 5 for a total of 108.
Breakdown of Calls by location: Eden 4; Johnson 3; Pine Lake 14; Greenwood 3; Gully 2; Winsor 4; Hangaard 0; City of Trail 2; City of Gully 5; City of Gonvick 23, Clearbrook Mutual Aid 4; Oklee Mutual Aid 1 and Fosston Mutual Aid 1 for a total of 66.
The Fire contracts for this year by townships: Greenwood $2,508.00 down $157.00 from last year. Hangaard $5,415.00 down $344.00 from last year; Pine Lake $21,696.00 up $1,684.00 from last year; Winsor $12,011.00 down $40.00 from last year; City of Gully $775.00 down $69.00 from last year; City of Trail $628.00 down $2.00 from last year; Johnson $6,795.00 up $935.00 from last year; Eden $11,487.00 up $95.00 from last year and Gully Township $12,461.00 up $1,331.00 from last year.
Maintenance issue included the quote for the sewer cleaning. The five year-contract for 2025-2029 starting at $3,500 a year. The company Johnson-Jet-Line from Kensington comes up yearly and work is done at the same time that they do the work in Clearbrook.
Miscellaneous issues included to go ahead with the flower baskets for this coming year. The thought was to make them a little bit bigger as the All-School Reunion and Rodeo will be held at the same time, July 11th through July 14th.
A question on the shape of the banners to be put up for the All-School reunion. Dan and Les said there were plenty that they would be able to put up.
Also the connections on the poles that hang the banners was in question as slivers were coming off the connections.
The skating rink has been used and the cold weather has kept it from melting. The hydrant that was used to get the water needs fixing this summer to be able to use for the skating rink next year.
Expenditures were approved with Water and Sewer for $3,850.09, General $21,842.88, Fire $4,159.61 for a total of $29,843.58.
The monthly meeting for March has been changed to Thursday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m.
